On Being in Limbo

The plan had been 4 countries, 4 months each, with 4 different mid-career internships along the way but things aren’t exactly lining up as seamlessly as I imagined. Turns out it was a rather ambitious plan to find professional gigs all over the world... and takes a lot of  cold calls and unrequited email love and to generate potential opportunities.
I feel like I’ve been in limbo for a while now and it’s starting to wear me down and I just need to chat about it before I can jump into action.

My Big, Fat Greek Girls Trip

15/6/2017

You know those stereotypes that say most kids don’t want to spend time with their mom, let alone go on vacation with them? That’s not my family. After partying it up Paris-style, I boarded a plane to Greece to meet up with my mom and sister, Lesley, who were celebrating 60th and 30th birthday respectively or, as the nerd in me would like to call it, the “half-life” birthday trip. When your family that has been 6,937 kilometers away is going to be on the same continent, of course you crash their vacation!

I'll Meet you In Paris Any Day

My friend Debbie knows how to turn forty. She invited friends from around the world to descend on Paris for a birthday extravaganza in her honour. I mean who doesn’t want to hang out with a lady who is inspired enough to roll out the red carpet for herself and strut into her next decade with some sass.  Milestones deserve to be celebrated. I celebrated my 20th birthday in a hostel in Paris during my summer-long backpacking trip and I rang in my dirty thirties with a down-the-rabbit-hole themed Alice in Wonderland  party so I know a thing or two about kicking off new decades. But Debbie took it to another level and I've decided that instead of waiting for decade milestones, I think we need to enter every year with spirit and sass.

Farewell Dear Ireland

3/6/2017

Bright, new leaves have sprouted, filling out Ireland’s impressive forests and the island becomes electric with green. After months of cold, spring is fully here overnight or at least we think it might be here... And to my disbelief, I’m packing up my house again, turning in my keys and boarding another airplane.

As I wrestle my stuff back into suitcases, I’m reflecting on my Irish experience. What have I learned? What has been life-giving? What things are presently occupying my mind and heart?

Since Martin’s preparation instructions were to read some W.B. Yeats poetry, I’ll borrow a few famous of his quotes to underscore my experience here in Sligo, bringing things full circle.

    Nice to meet you...

I'm Andi (hence the blog name). I'm a travel aficionado, passionate eater, tireless explorer of internet rabbit-holes, and amateur thinker. Join me as I give it all up (ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration) and go around the world on a mid-career "soul sabbatical" & year-of-learning to figure out what to be NEXT when I grow up. Won’t you grab a cup of chai and stay a while?
